Chef Debra Rami
For Chef Debra Rami, her love of food is tied inextricably to family. One of her earliest childhood memories was of her grandmother baking cornbread, the delicious smells wafting through the house. She’d hover in the kitchen, counting down the minutes until it came out of the oven, golden brown and steaming hot-- ready to be slathered with butter.
Now she's the one doing the cooking, for the six children and five grandchildren in her blended family; “The Rami Bunch!”, she jokes. You'd be hard pressed to find an open seat around her Thanksgiving table, where she says the secret is the fun and love she cooks into each dish. Of course, her Mammaw's cornbread always has a prime spot on the menu. And you just might catch her grandkids hovering when it’s about time for it to come out of the oven.
